Very thankful

I thought, I'd make a "health" related blog update, since I know some of you care about me in that sense (which I am thankful for). I know my mom used to have a caringbridge site that she updated, and am not sure if she has been writing lately, but I have big news to share..well kind of anyway. I have been successfully gaining weight (finally) and have managed to gain almost 10 pounds since leaving mayo, which is huge for me. I still have all the same symptoms and issues, but have been really diligent and careful about my diet and it is finally paying off. I still have a ways to go before I will be at a healthy weight, but I am positive I can get there. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. I don't think I ever realized how many people actually care about me before all of this. I feel unbelievably loved and supported by all who have been thinking about me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! :)

I have no life :p

So.......I haven't updated this much :/ but what can I say, I've been very busy!

Since school started in August I have been busy trying to keep up with my studying and going to clinicals. This is my 3rd semester of nursing school and the clinicals are focused on pediatrics and obstetrics. I never thought I would be interested in either of these areas and if I had to pick one that I thought I would like better, I would have probably chosen peds. The funny thing is, I really didn't like my peds experience. I have finished all of those clinicals now and I thought they were a little boring. I think I would have enjoyed it more if they would have let me take on more patients so I had more to do. I did like working with younger people though. I don't think I would mind working as a peds nurse if I had more patients at once and wasn't so bored all the time. So I was wrong about liking peds, but once I started learning about pregnancy/labor & delivery, it was like I had found my calling. Now that I've had some experience in both postpartum/newborn care and labor & delivery, I am almost positive that I would really like working in that area after I graduate and pass (hopefully) the NCLEX. That whole area of nursing is so interesting to me that I actually ENJOY reading/studying about it. The OB clinical experience has been my favorite clinicals so far and I really want to do my 5th semester preceptership in this area. I am just getting SO excited to become a real nurse and not just a nursing student. I just want to be done with school so I can just be a nurse :)

Speaking of "getting done with school," I have also been spending my time trying to prepare for the NCLEX exam. I am just so nervous that I won't pass and all of my schooling will go to waste. I now have 4 NCLEX prep books haha. The nice thing is that they are really helping me with my exams at school.

I don't really have much else to post about because my life only entails school, studying, and clinicals, and I don't really have time for anything else.

I found this cool recipe though...it tastes really delish AND makes my apartment smell amazing.

YUM!

That's all for now :)

Wine Cork Art

One day my mom showed me that she saved all of these wine corks. I asked her if I could take them and make something out of them. Here are the results!

The wine corks before they became art.

A heart- I want to hang it on the wall somehow

 Coasters!

I think they are neat :)

Summer is at an end

So here goes my first post...

I decided to start a blog for Jordan and I. Our lives aren't that exciting, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

Summer is ending, and the school year is right around the corner :( I am not too thrilled to be starting nursing classes again and all the stress that comes with it. Both Jordan and I took classes at SDSU this Summer so we both feel as if we never really had a "break." Oh well. I will be starting my third semester of nursing school which means I only have 3 semesters left. Woohoo! Jordan, who has a major of biotechnology, will be starting his 2nd to last year of school. I just can't wait for this part of my life to be over so Jordan and I can be done with school and we can move on with our lives together.

I thought I'd do a little recap of what all happened this summer.

May-
Both Jordan and I finished our Junior year of college. I began working at Brookings Home Health as a caretaker/aide. It is the first job that I have had that I have actually enjoyed. This gives me hope that I have chosen the correct field to major in. Jordan starting picking up more hours at the hog barn this month which he has worked at for awhile. I also started and finished my first summer course this month. I took a fast paced, short gerontology course. It was pretty easy.
After the first few weeks of May I was unfortunately hospitalized for malnutrition at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester. About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder causes my immune system to attack the protein called gluten in my small intestines. The only "cure" for this disease is to start a gluten free diet, which means I can no longer eat any wheat, barley, or rye. Once I started the gluten free diet, I never really recovered, and after many doctor's visits I finally found out I also have microscopic colitis, lymphacytic gastritis, and a very sick/slow moving digestive system. All of this has caused me to feel very sick and nauseous, so I lost a lot of weight, and became malnourished. I had to have a feeding tube put in for awhile, but eventually went home on an all liquid, high calorie diet. I am still on this diet, and am continuing to struggle to gain weight, but am hoping to see improvement soon.

June-
As of right now, I can't really think of anything that went on during this month worth noting. I guess, Jordan and I began more summer classes. Jordan took chemistry and I took biology. They were both 10 week courses that ended in the first week of August.

July-
July means vacation at Triggs Bay Resort in Arnolds Park, Iowa for the Moeller family. I stayed there for a couple of days without Jordan over the holiday weekend. He was not able to come because he couldn't get off of work. I really enjoyed spending time with my family and soaking up the rays. It was very very hot and humid.
Towards the end of this month, I had a doctor's visit with a new doctor. She is a gastroenterologist out of Sioux Falls and I wanted to get established with her so I can continue seeing her for all my symptoms. I really like this doctor because she is the only one I have talked to that actually cares about managing my symptoms and not just concentrating on weight gain.

August-
Nothing very exciting has happened this month. Jordan and I just got back from a weekend in Luverne. We went to my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary party this past Saturday. Right now I am finishing up with work at homecare for the summer. I decided not to work there during the school year. Jordan and I will start classes next week.

That is all for now.....not sure how often I will post new information,  or where this blog will go, but I will try to keep it up to date!
