So here goes my first post...
I decided to start a blog for Jordan and I. Our lives aren't that exciting, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.
Summer is ending, and the school year is right around the corner :( I am not too thrilled to be starting nursing classes again and all the stress that comes with it. Both Jordan and I took classes at SDSU this Summer so we both feel as if we never really had a "break." Oh well. I will be starting my third semester of nursing school which means I only have 3 semesters left. Woohoo! Jordan, who has a major of biotechnology, will be starting his 2nd to last year of school. I just can't wait for this part of my life to be over so Jordan and I can be done with school and we can move on with our lives together.
I thought I'd do a little recap of what all happened this summer.
May-
Both Jordan and I finished our Junior year of college. I began working at Brookings Home Health as a caretaker/aide. It is the first job that I have had that I have actually enjoyed. This gives me hope that I have chosen the correct field to major in. Jordan starting picking up more hours at the hog barn this month which he has worked at for awhile. I also started and finished my first summer course this month. I took a fast paced, short gerontology course. It was pretty easy.
After the first few weeks of May I was unfortunately hospitalized for malnutrition at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester. About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder causes my immune system to attack the protein called gluten in my small intestines. The only "cure" for this disease is to start a gluten free diet, which means I can no longer eat any wheat, barley, or rye. Once I started the gluten free diet, I never really recovered, and after many doctor's visits I finally found out I also have microscopic colitis, lymphacytic gastritis, and a very sick/slow moving digestive system. All of this has caused me to feel very sick and nauseous, so I lost a lot of weight, and became malnourished. I had to have a feeding tube put in for awhile, but eventually went home on an all liquid, high calorie diet. I am still on this diet, and am continuing to struggle to gain weight, but am hoping to see improvement soon.
June-
As of right now, I can't really think of anything that went on during this month worth noting. I guess, Jordan and I began more summer classes. Jordan took chemistry and I took biology. They were both 10 week courses that ended in the first week of August.
July-
July means vacation at Triggs Bay Resort in Arnolds Park, Iowa for the Moeller family. I stayed there for a couple of days without Jordan over the holiday weekend. He was not able to come because he couldn't get off of work. I really enjoyed spending time with my family and soaking up the rays. It was very very hot and humid.
Towards the end of this month, I had a doctor's visit with a new doctor. She is a gastroenterologist out of Sioux Falls and I wanted to get established with her so I can continue seeing her for all my symptoms. I really like this doctor because she is the only one I have talked to that actually cares about managing my symptoms and not just concentrating on weight gain.
August-
Nothing very exciting has happened this month. Jordan and I just got back from a weekend in Luverne. We went to my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary party this past Saturday. Right now I am finishing up with work at homecare for the summer. I decided not to work there during the school year. Jordan and I will start classes next week.
That is all for now.....not sure how often I will post new information, or where this blog will go, but I will try to keep it up to date!
